Etienne Perrin - guitar maker

René Vannes gives some information about him in his Dictionary (1851 & 1859): “PERRIN, Etienne, born in Mirecourt around 1785 - We are only known by a violin, alcohol varnish, marked in iron in the shape of a triangle: E. PERRIN & FILS A MIRECOURT"
Willibald Leo von Lütgendorff says in his dictionary The Violin and Lute Makers From the Middle Ages to the Present: "Perrin, fils, E. - Mirecourt. 1840. Good company that often names Paris as the place of origin in its violins. The instruments have a big shape, good wood and an orange lacquer."
Henry Poidras gives the following information in his Dictionnaire des Luthiers Anciens et Modernes : “PERRIN - Mirecourt at the end of the 18th century. The violins bearing the iron mark “Perrin” or “Perrin fils” are in a great number. According to its manifacture and the yellow varnish which adorns it, this violin belongs to the ordinary category of Mirecourt of this time."
A Perrin’s guitar is kept at the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung, Musikinstrumentenmuseum in Berlin. This guitar is branded "E. PERRIN / FILS" and has the inventory number 5110.
Some of his instruments report the following branded on the inside : " E. PERRIN / FILS / A PARIS" meaning that the maker also resided in Paris.
